SOD: The Story behind Ciara's shocking rape!

She was told by AA and JG that this was going to happen well in advance. She didn't discuss this with anyone. She watched videos of when Sami was raped and to see how far the show takes these types of scenes. She also read up on other's women's stories and how it effects them.

She didn't do much work with JM before these scenes took place because they wanted it to be realistic and spontaneous. When she had to film this, she was calm at first and got nervous when the scenes began to take place. After the scenes were done she wanted some time to herself and she cried. Producer Janet Spellman-Drucker was supportive with her. Many people were crying after these scenes too.

So now where is Ciara? She's broken, guilt ridden and ashamed. She begins to act out. She hopes that Ciara's journey will help others and strike a chord with the viewers. She talks about RAINN & NSVRC.

I thought it was interesting Vivian mentioned watching Sami's rape story on YT. So many of the actors look at YT, so it's a shame so many clips have been pulled down. There are only a few clips left of Sami's story from 1994. There used to be a bunch more.

I wasn't a fan of this s/l at first. But I want to see how they handle the aftermath with Ciara as well as Chase, Hope, Andre, etc before I throw stones.

And if they even TRY to redeem that little bastard, I will throw boulders...

That being said, VJ is handling this with a great deal of class - kudos to her for that. I wish I could say the same for JMc, though - he seems like an egomaniacal little prick anymore.

Whether you're a fan of this story or not, you can't deny that Vivian's gone about this storyline with maturity and professionalism. Most of the article is made up of quotes from her, and she sounds like she is taking this storyline very seriously and wants to do the best she possibly can in telling it. She may not be the best young actress Days has ever had, but she's putting in a hell of a lot of effort into a storyline that deserves it. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unravels and how she plays it.

I like that VJ did her homework and that she's clearly trying to use this story to send out a positive message with the organizations she talks about. I honestly wasn't a fan of all this when I first heard about the spoiler, but I'm definitely coming around and I think it's being handled well and will continue to be handled well under Griffith's pen.

Kudos to VJ! I love that she watched Sami's rape scenes and also read about rape cases. It shows that she's a professional, despite what people think about her talent. I think she's doing a fantastic job with the material she's been giving thus far.

I guess I don't see all of this...I'm not amazed by the story or the actors or characters involved...still watching...still waiting...

Maybe they can make Theo likable

Good thing she watched Sami's rape and read cases for context of the content. It's the best way to approach it. You don't want to go into it cold turkey.

VJ doesn't have an issue with the very emotional stuff involving the rape, it's the other stuff, like delivering her lines. It's a work in progress. Overall, she's held her own with these scenes.

VJ seems to have a good head on her shoulders. I really like that she's become an activist through this storyline and that she acknowledges how important the issue of rape is. It almost couldn't have happened at a better (or worse, maybe) point in time, with all the rape allegations against Bill Cosby, Kesha's loss in court against her rapist producer, rape supporters organizing rallys (yuck!), etc.

She's got problems delivering lines, yes, but maybe this is the storyline she needs to grow. She wouldn't be the first actress on this show to rapidly improve once given something to properly sink her teeth into. I mean, it was only 8 years ago that another rape storyline allowed an entire group of younger actresses on this show to improve leaps and bounds. Although it is a bit worrying that the show appears to recycle rape storylines in regular intervals.

It's awesome that she did so much research.

I have been telling on SOC board that viewers should compare this rape to Sami and Alan.....And I just read this that Vivian saw how Sami was raped...Anyway, Days is sending out the message so the viewers gets the understanding of the aftermath of rape. Hoping new viewers would get the chance to see it. Its all about raising the ratings on this topic, I guess. Its not a bad thing, but I wished that they should have done something else.

I think she's doing great with the material too. I know she gets a lot of complaints about her acting but, I try not judge her to harshly this is her first acting gig. Do people not remember how AZ was when she first started. Thanks to social media nowadays I think the younger actors get criticized more and forget that back in the in 80's & 90's. Also I'm sure there was alot more rehearsal back then as well. I do think this story will give her a chance to grow and look what having a story to sink your teeth into did for RSW.

It's not her acting that I find bad, it's the way she talks and barely opens her mouth. That hasn't changed in the months that she's been there. She's a good crier but so far that's all I've been impressed with.

Alfonso too! Look back at a clip from the 80s. She was awful. Had message boards been around back then, she would've been ripped to shreds and there would've been petitions to recast Hope.

I disagree somewhat. KA was definitely BAD when she first started, but what she lacked in acting ability, she made up for in personality and charm. There was something that drew the audience to her character (and her pairing with Bo) despite her lack of skills. And within a year on the job training, she was much, much better. By that time, Hope (or maybe Hope and Bo, to be more specific) was already very, very popular, regardless of KA's inconsistent acting. VJ seems to be trying, but she lacks the charisma that KA had. Ciara is pretty boring and unemotional overall. VJ's acting is quite flat.

I mean, while VJ isn't necessarily award winning (yet), we should all thank our stars that she isn't Charity Rahmer...

The first time I was viewing the 1980s stuff online (more so 1983), I actually didn't think KA was bad. Re-watching it recently? Yeah, not good BUT beginner Hope/KA was light years ahead of beginner Ciara/VJ. One, the charisma level was HIGH, two, she didn't have a stilted way of delivering lines despite her speed driven delivery a little too often.

I will say VJ doesn't have the benefit of getting to do scenes over and over and over and over, and KA did. Charisma though? It's either something you have or don't have; sometimes you can achieve it later in your career (AZ). The kid who is playing Claire has it. She's not terrific but she has a spark she brings into the scenes.

I do think VJ shows signs of not being a lost cause. I've been re-watching November stuff and I don't dislike what she's doing in a lot of the scenes with Hope, Bo & Chase for the most part. When I was initially watching these episodes live, I wasn't really fond of anything happening (I was thinking "can we get to happy already?") there but re-watching it? Kind of awesome all around, the writing and the acting.

Is JV doing anything that I remember after I watch an episode of DAYS since the rape? No. I don't think she's quite as *head shake* as she is when she's doing the more simple stuff though.

ETA:

PrtSc from an online video. I really do not like that they did this story. I mean it's here and I don't mind it because I think JG will do right by it - and it's a story that can help people - but I wish they hadn't gone there.

I really wish they hadn't gone there. This is not how the daughter of Bo and Hope should have lost her virginity.

Actually that's a point I hope the show deals with. Virginity shouldn't matter when it comes to rape. It's act of violence.

I have hopes that the show will do this storyline justice. I was thinking about how many women in Ciara's life who are rape survivors (Maggie, Jennifer, Kayla, Marlena) and in my dream world the show would use history with Ciara living at Jennifer's.

I also want to have Chase not painted as an one side character. Andre did manipulate him and his mental state needs to be dealt with.

It's weird I hate the Phyllis slept with Fake Jack storyline on Y&R because the show isn't calling rape which it was and blaming Phyllis for being stupid enough not to realize it wasn't Jack.

So compare to that, I'm interested in see where the show goes with this.

I agree. After the kidnappings, the betrayal by Aiden, and the death of her father who had been absent from her life though no fault of his own,the rape now is too much.I wanted Ciara to have a sweet teen/young woman romance with a few hiccups not a traumatic rape by a person she practically thought of as a new brother.I hate that Chase has been cast into the role of the rapist let alone the rapist of someone who has been a friend to him since they were children and recently had so many unhappy recent events in her life.
